[Core Information 07.12] wafer foundry price competition is more intense, memory is through the bottom  (2023/7/12 14:52:03)

1. Industry: wafer foundry recovery is not as expected and will lift a price war According to the Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily quoted Taiwan, China Economic Daily, the semiconductor business recovery is not as good as expected, supply chain industry insiders said that the second quarter of the strategy was not effective, and recently turned to a price war.

12 inch mature process OEM price, big customers can be reduced by up to 20%; 8 inch mature process OEM market conditions are more bleak, the price reduction can not attract customers.

2. Qualcomm, Mediatek in the second half of the scale of the film is "quite conservative"

According to the Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily quoted Taiwan, China electronic Times, Qualcomm, Mediatek two mobile SoC manufacturers did not disclose their views on the demand in the second half of the year, but the market news said that the two companies in the second half of the year are quite conservative, even if there are flagship new products launched, but the shipments may be very conservative.

Some industry insiders believe that it is right to maintain the conservative film strategy, after all, the mobile phone market has not seen any turnaround opportunity in 2023.

3. Group: NAND flash memory original factory strong willingness to increase prices, part of the main control supply

According to Kechuang Daily, citing Taiwan, China Economic Daily, Pan Jiancheng, CEO of NAND flash memory factory, said that the current inventory level of NAND flash memory chip market is still very high, the price has fallen below the manufacturer's bottom line, affecting profitability, so the upstream NAND original factory has a strong desire to raise prices from July.

In addition, some main control chips are in urgent need, some models are even in short supply, and the demand for NAND solid state disk module is also slowly increasing.

With the arrival of the traditional stock preparation season in the third quarter, and the NAND price is still relatively low, the recent demand for NAND storage modules is growing slowly, and customers are also gradually launching large-capacity SSD storage products.

4. South Ako: DRAM sales increased, and the supply and demand are expected to balance in the fourth quarter

According to Taiwan, China industrial and commercial times reported, DRAM factory south branch 10 method, general manager pei-ying li pointed out that DRAM market in the second quarter, the second half of the mobile phone, TV demand will gradually improve, DRAM supply and demand situation is expected to balance in the fourth quarter, but still need to observe the mainland domestic demand market, the cloud market and the global economic recovery.

South ACO announced self-consolidated financial report on the same day, the second quarter revenue of NT $7.027 billion, up 9.4%; the second quarter DRAM average selling price decreased in single percentage, sales increased in ten percentage, volume increase and price decrease.

The operating net loss was NT $3.185 billion, the operating profit margin was negative 45.3%, 0.4 percentage points lower than the previous month. The non-operating revenue was NT $1.264 billion, the net loss was NT $771 million, and the net profit margin was negative 11.0%.

5. TSMC's revenue in June was NT $156.404 billion, down each year from the previous year

The wafer foundry TSMC announced on Monday that the consolidated revenue for June 2023 was about NT $156.404 billion, down 11.4% from the previous month and down 11.1% from the same period last year.

The cumulative revenue from the January-June period of 2023 was about NT $989.474 billion, down 3.5% from the same period last year.

6. Japan will provide subsidies to its silicon wafer plants to increase production capacity

To revitalize the semiconductor industry, the Japanese government announced that it would provide 75 billion yen in subsidies to Shengko (Sumco), a major silicon wafer producer, to achieve higher yields, IT Home reported, citing reports.

Nikkei, Shengko plans to invest 225 billion yen in plant and equipment, with a third of the cost subsidized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Shenggao, the world's second-largest semiconductor silicon wafer plant, with its main production facility in Saga Prefecture, Kyushu Island, and plans to build an advanced chip plant in a nearby town. The new plant is expected to begin wafer production in 2029.

7. Hon Hai has terminated its cooperation with Indian companies to build semiconductor factories

According to Taiwan, China Business Times, Hon Hai said on the evening of October 10 that it will no longer participate in the operation of the joint venture, and the company will be fully owned by Vedanta.

Hon Hai was originally set to build a 28-nm 12-inch joint venture with Vedanta, which is expected to start production in 2025.

At the request of the Indian government, Hon Hai and Vedanta invited STMicroelectronics to act as technology partners to provide wafer production technology.

A successful investment will receive a $930 million incentive bonus from the Indian government.
